about New life

We believe that our purpose in this life to do the most we can with all that we have for God and our neighbors. In other words, our lives are not our own. We live for God and for the benefit of others. This is the example that Jesus set for us when he gave up his life for all the world. Because he gave himself for us, we now give ourselves to him and his purpose.

Our church has undergone numerous metamorphoses over the years. Originally founded in 1892 by Swedish immigrants and called the Swedish Evangelical Mission Church of San Jose, California, the church had its first property in what is now downtown San Jose. Having changed their name to First Covenant Church of San Jose, they experienced rapid growth in the first half of the 20th century, and by the 1950's had exceeded the space they were in and its parking availability.

In 1954, they finished construction on a new building in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose, on Riverside and Coe.

We are a part of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC).  Set in motion in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, today the ECC is a growing, multiethnic, intergenerational mosaic of churches with ministry partnerships in nearly forty countries. The ECC's goal is to join efforts in the hope of seeing even more people engage in a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, across more populations, in a more caring and just world.
